Sibling Analysis Sibling DNA Testing does not identify a biological parent. This type of test is used to determine whether two (or more) individuals have common biological parents. Sibling analysis is divided into two categories:
Full-Sibling Study This test is for Clients who want to determine if they have both parents in common (share the same mother and the same father). Half-Sibling Study This test is for Clients who want to determine if they have one parent in common. (Share the same mother or the same father.) Accuracy Sibling DNA testing is less accurate than paternity or maternity testing. The laboratory will analyse the samples to produce a ‘likelihood ratio’. The higher this number is, the stronger the evidence of a relationship. likelihood ratio | strength of evidence | 1001+ | very strong | 331-1000 | strong | 101-330 | good | 34-100 | fair/moderate | 21-33 | weak/limited | 1-20 | inconclusive |
|
There is always the chance that the Sibling test will yield an INCONCLUSIVE result. This occurs in approximately one in five cases. Clients should be fully aware of the limitations of the test before proceeding. There are no refunds for inconclusive tests.
