A Guide to Your Clinic Visit nb the procedure for a Court Admissible DNA test is slightly different from this. When you arrive at The DNA Clinic for your Peace of Mind DNA test you will be greeted at the door. You will be introduced to your Case Manager who will escort you to a private and comfortable room. The ambience is relaxed, child-friendly and nobody wears a white coat! It will save time if you bring with you a signed copy of our Consent Form and Terms & Conditions. You can download them both here (requires Adobe Reader). For the Court Admissible versions of these forms, click here. During your half hour consultation, a number of topics may be covered: - Your payment will be taken (cash, debit or credit card – no cheques). Current fees
- Any issues/questions you have will be addressed
- The testing procedure will be explained
- Mouth swabs will be taken. This is a special swab (like a long
cotton bud) that is rubbed on the inside of the cheeks to obtain cells. DNA can then be extracted from these samples.
- You will be asked how you would like to receive your results when they are ready (see How long will I have to wait for the results? for details of processing times). Written results are automatically
supplied to each participant over 16 years of age. You may wish simply to receive these by post, or you may want to come back and collect them at a further half hour Clinic session with your case manager. The choice is yours, and the DNA test fee is the same regardless of your choice. We do not give test results over the phone or by email (unless you have ordered an express service).
- We will ask you for some personal details including date and area of birth and ethnic origin (necessary for accurate laboratory DNA analysis and interpretation). We will also ask you to create a password which we will ask for if you later phone us about your case.
We need to know of any close biological relationships between test participants. For example: Paternity – are potential fathers related eg brothers, cousins etc? Sibling/Grandparent – is there any other possible biological relationship between test participants, other than the one being tested?
| | We understand that some people may wish to have relatives come along to the consultation. For reasons of space, and to ensure the smooth running of the consultation, we prefer that you ask your relatives to wait for you outside. Please note that we do not have a waiting room. Please switch off your mobile phone during the half hour session. If you need to talk to someone
before the date of your Clinic appointment, please do not hesitate to contact us.
IMPORTANT – Those being tested must not eat, drink, chew gum or smoke for at least one hour before the clinic appointment. This ensures an optimum number of cells can be obtained.
